Much of what we know about 'ancient Roman food' comes from 'Apicius', a collection of Roman cookery recipes, usually thought to have been compiled around the 5th century AD and the 'Cena Trimalchionis' (Banquet of Trimalchio) by Petronius in which he describes a dinner party given by Trimalchio (1st century AD)
